Gladiolus provide stunning, eye-catching flowers. During the summer, gladiolus plants thrive in the warm temperatures.

Gladiolus blooms come in an enormous variety of colors, including multicolored and apricot, blue, burgundy, pink, gold, red, orange, and white. It goes by the name “sword lily” occasionally. Gladioli are a wonderful cutting flower and look stunning in bouquets during midsummer. Stands between two to five feet tall.

They produce one to nine slender, sword-shaped, longitudinally grooved leaves from stems that are often unbranched. Large, solitary flower spikes are seen. They form a tube-shaped structure when joined at the base.

Planting Procedure

  • October is the best period to plant on plains, and March or April in hills.
  • To plant the bulb, dig a hole that is roughly 5 cm deep.
  • Place the bulb tip up in the hole, cover with earth, and press down firmly.
  • Light bulbs six to eight inches apart.
  • The suggested compositions for bulb plantations are as follows: Soil + Cocopeat + Vermicompost (1:1:1) or Garden Soil + Compost + Perlite + Sand (2:2:1:1).

Gladiolus Care

  • Gladiola bulbs are submerged in water until they fail to germinate, at which point they are put in potting mix.
  • Place the plant where it will receive the most sunshine possible.
  • If the soil is dry, watering should be done first thing in the morning.
  • Water a plant thoroughly in the summer and less frequently in the winter and during rainy seasons. Water a plant when the soil feels dry to the touch.
  • Aim to water the plants between 8 and 10 in the morning.
  • Dead, diseased, or damaged plant components should be removed and thrown in the rubbish collector.
  • Plants should be fertilized during the planting and growing seasons.
  • Add some organic mulch to the potting mix.
